Best Time to Visit Vancouver: A Month-by-Month Weather Guide
Vancouver's weather can make or break your visit. From the rainy season to the sunny summer window, here is everything you need to plan the perfect trip.
Understanding Vancouver's Climate
Vancouver enjoys one of Canada's mildest climates, but "mild" doesn't mean dry. The city receives over 1,150 mm of precipitation annually, most of it falling between October and April. Summers, however, are typically warm, sunny, and glorious — making it one of the best times to visit.
Month-by-Month Breakdown
January & February — Deep Winter
Average temperatures hover around 3-7°C with frequent rain and occasional freezing rain. Snow is rare at sea level but common in the mountains, making these months excellent for skiing at Whistler. Visitor numbers are low, and hotel rates are reduced.
March & April — Early Spring
Rain continues, but the famous cherry blossoms typically peak in late March to early April, creating spectacular displays throughout the city. Temperatures begin rising to 8-12°C.
May & June — Shoulder Season
Conditions improve significantly. Rain becomes less frequent, temperatures reach 14-18°C, and the city begins to buzz with outdoor activity. June offers a good balance of pleasant weather and manageable crowds.
July & August — Peak Summer
Vancouver's summer window is genuinely spectacular. Average highs of 22-25°C, low humidity, and abundant sunshine make this the best time for outdoor activities. This is also peak tourist season — book accommodation and activities well in advance.
September & October — Early Fall
September is often Vancouver's best-kept secret. Temperatures remain warm (18-20°C), crowds thin out, and the fall colours begin appearing. By October, rain returns and temperatures drop.
November & December — Wet Season Returns
Gray, rainy, and mild. Average temperatures of 4-8°C. The mountains above the city begin accumulating snowpack, and the famous festive Lights at VanDusen Garden draw holiday visitors.
